CALDER CANNONS - 11.17.83
EASTERN RANGES - 7.8.50
Eastern’s round two match of the TAC Cup season started off promising enough, however the class of Calder proved to be too much in a 33-point defeat.
The match started under a brilliant sunset in Craigieburn on Thursday night, and for the first fifteen minutes Calder had the better of the forward 50 entries but could not convert.
Calvin Daraio put through the first goal of the night from a set shot, and Eastern trailed by just one point at quarter time.
Jonte Duffy kicked our second of the night with a snap out of the pack from close range, however over the next forty minutes across he second and third quarters Calder kicked six of the next seven goals to open up a significant lead.
Trailing by 24 points at the final break, the game was not out of reach, but we needed a huge effort in the last quarter in order to claim the four points.
Mihaele Zalac kicked two goals in the final quarter, however Calder had an immediate response after every one of our goals, kicking three of the last four goals to win by 33 points.
Unfortunately the loss sees the Ranges at the bottom of the ladder after two rounds, winless alongside Geelong Falcons.
Best players on the night included Ben Cardamone, Mitch Mellis, Xavier Fry, Jarrod Gilbee, Mihaele Zalac, and Kye Quirk.
Goalkickers for the night were:
M Zalac 2
J Duffy 2
J Jaworski
A Kalcovski
C Daraio
Round three sees the team travel to Williamstown on Saturday afternoon to take on the eighth-placed Western Jets.
