Recruiting Policy & Procedures for obtaining player details
The Western Jets will on an annual basis approach the leagues/ clubs from within the region to negotiate the most user friendly method for obtaining details of players for the purpose of selecting development squads at the TAC Cup (Football Victoria) level.
Western Jets recruiting staff will observe matches and note the age level being played, participating teams, and note player jumper numbers of players the Western Jets require information for.
Western Jets recruiting staff will not directly approach club officials, coaches, players or parents for player details unless otherwise directed. However, if club officials wish to approach Jets recruiting staff with player information they are more than welcome to do so.
The Western Jets will approach the Leagues and/ or its clubs for the supply of the details (individual teams) outlined below for the purpose of obtaining a detailed database of identified players (Forms will be supplied)
- Players Jumper Number
- Players Name
- Date of Birth
- Address
- Phone Number (if available)
From time to time the Western Jets will contact a designated person from each club/ team to discuss the progress of players from that club/ team
Representatives from the Western Jets will attend delegates meetings from time to time to supply information regarding local club issues pertaining to the talented player pathway
The Western Jets will invite these identified players to participate in development matches at U14, U15, U16 and U17 levels during the second and third term school holidays.
Players selected from these matches will then be invited to participate in Western Jets squads at U15, U16 and U18 levels.
Western Jets De-Listing Policy
Players selected in Western Jets squads will be given a reasonable opportunity to demonstrate their ability (training sessions and intra club practice matches). The club will also observe the TAC Cup Selection Criteria policy (copy of this policy will be distributed to all players and parents). However, it should be understood by players, parents and domestic clubs that there are number limits on all squads (U15, U16 and U18). This ensures that selected players are given every opportunity to meet their full potential at the above mentioned age levels.
De-Listing Policy at U15 Level
Players who are not selected at this level will be notified verbally by either the Regional Manager, Development Manager or the Coach directly involved with that particular team. All leagues and clubs will also be notified in writing of players who aren't selected. It will always be noted at this age level that non-selection at this age doesn't mean there won't be future opportunities, subject to match performances witnessed by Jets staff.
De-Listing Policy at U16 Level
Players not selected at this age level will be notified individually, both verbally and in writing. All leagues and clubs will also be notified in writing of players who aren't selected. This will be done by the Regional Manager, Development Manager or the coach directly involved with the particular team. It will always be noted at this age level that non-selection at this stage doesn't mean there will not be future opportunities, subject to match performances witnessed by Jets staff.
De-Listing Policy at U18 Level
Players not selected at this age level will be notified individually, both verbally and in written form. All leagues and clubs will also be notified in writing of players who aren't selected. This will be done by either the Regional Manager, U18 coach or members of the Match Committee. It will always be noted that non-selection doesn't mean that there won't be future opportunities, subject to match performances witnessed by Jets staff.
Changing Clubs Policy
The Western Jets will not advise or encourage any player to change clubs or leagues (e.g. from a recruiting or development viewpoint, regardless of where the player has that affiliation eg A or B division).
The Western Jets would like to see players show loyalty to their club of origin and would ideally see a spread of talented players across all clubs and leagues within the region.
Delisted players in all age groups will be strongly encouraged to return to their original club.
Notification of Players in Squads
All leagues and clubs from the region will be notified of all players selected in training squads (U15, U16 and U18).
This information will take the form of the players' club, player name and associated squad (e.g. U15, U16 or U18).
The lists will be supplied at the earliest possible time, dependant upon all relevant information. This information will be supplied for various delegates meetings the leagues and clubs directly at appropriate times subject to selection and time of year with each individual squad e.g. Under 15 Development (February, March), Legends (August, September). .
Development Squad Training v Club Training
When squads operate between January and April, there is rarely a problem. However, when squads operate later in the year (June to September) there is potential for a conflict of interest between Development training and club training (finals). To give players every opportunity to make "Jets" squads, players should be available to train at least once a week. However, during finals, players who are asked to train with their clubs on specific nights will have the endorsement and best wishes of the Jets and only need to advise of the situation.
Western Jets Selection and Availability Policy
There are several issues involved at different age levels.
U18
All players selected in Jets U18 squad are required to train on Tuesday nights. Players that are required to train on Thursday nights will be notified on the Jets Information Line (1900 933 974). This information will be available after match committee each Wednesday morning. The selected players will train on Thursday, with the final squad of 22 announced after training, leaving a number of emergencies who may be called upon to play if selected players (in original 22) cannot play for whatever reason. Clubs may call Shane Sexton 0419 504 120 after 7.30pm on Thursday evenings to clarify selection of individual players.
All players on the Western Jets training list, but not selected in the final 22 for a particular match, are expected to play club football.
U16
a) Under 16 State Championships: From year to year a group of up to 30 players will be selected to represent the Western Jets at these championships. This includes a series of matches during March and a camp in the first week of the first term school holidays. This involves matches against other TAC Cup regions and is vital for players' chances of being selected in the state U16 Championships. Some players decide that playing club football at this stage is too much risk. Western Jets policy is that the player should make this decision in consultation with his parents.
b) A group of 25 players is then selected for the state U16 championships in the second week of the first term school holidays. These championships culminate with the selection of a Victorian Metropolitan squad for the national U16 championships. Some selected players (and their parents) decide not to play club matches at this time to give themselves the best possible chance to perform at this important time. It is the Western Jets view that players should be given every opportunity at this time. Ultimately players make these decisions in consultation with their parents.
c) A further U16 carnival is played during the third term school holidays (Legends Carnival). Players are required to train once a week in the lead up to this carnival. In most cases the local domestic season is finished. When training clashes with players preparing for local finals the Jets will always recommend and encourage players to train with their local club in preparation for local finals. The Jets will also endeavor to schedule training nights that don't clash with club training nights at this time of the year.
U15
The Western Jets are fully supportive of the VMFL U14 & 15 Championships. With this in mind the Jets will conduct an U15 Development Squad which will train once a week and conclude with two matches against another region prior to the beginning of the local junior season. The purpose of this squad is purely for development and skill acquisition purposes and as an introduction to the Western Jets Football Club.
Further matches at this age level will be played in the lead up to the third term school holidays.
