In a game of rewards for effort, the Western Jets certainly showed plenty of effort but were rewarded little at RAMS Arena last Saturday. The Northern Knights have quickly become premiership favorites in this year NAB League, but the Jets refused to just hand them the Victory. From the opening bounce, Ruby Tripodi was digging into the trenches of the midfield and winning the clearances. Nikita Wright had been pushed forward while Elisabeth Georgostathis found a new role across the half-back. This proved to be a smart move by coach Zach Reid as Wright kicked the opening goal and Georgostathis was sweeping up every loss ball in her defensive half.
However, the first quarter still belonged to the Knights as they kicked two late majors to end the term four points up. The pressure would continue by the Knights who kicked three unanswered goals to finish the first half. The third term kicked off with a bang by the Jets with clearances and inside 50's all going in the Jets way, but missed opportunities in front of goal were costly. The Knights were held in the third term but seemed to have a ball on a string in the last. In the end, it was the Northern Knights walking away 25 point victors.
Hero of the Day: Ruby Tripodi
For the past two weeks, most of the midfield credit has gone to either Elisabeth Geogostathis and Isabella Grant. However, Tripodi wanted that ball more than anybody last Saturday. Her ability to get the quick kick outs and burst from the stoppages made all the difference against a strong Knights outfit.
